Subnautica 2 Hits Early Access May 14, 2026 on PC and Xbox

Subnautica 2 early access underwater survival game 2026

Unknown Worlds has confirmed Subnautica 2 will launch in early access on May 14, 2026, for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X|S through Game Pass. The sequel returns to underwater survival with a new planet, co-op mode, and upgraded graphics.

This is the first mainline Subnautica game since 2018. The early access period is expected to last 12-18 months, with full release planned for late 2027.

What’s New in Subnautica 2

The biggest addition is 4-player co-op. You can now explore the alien ocean with friends, build bases together, and tackle larger creatures as a team. Solo play is still fully supported.

The game takes place on a new planet called Astra-9, with deeper biomes, new fauna, and a rewritten narrative system. Unknown Worlds says player choices will affect the story more than in the original.

Graphics have been rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, with ray tracing, DLSS 4, and FSR 4 support on PC. Xbox Series X targets 60fps at 4K.

Early Access Roadmap

Launch version includes:

Biomes: 5 explorable zones, including the Trench Depths and Coral Expanse
Vehicles: Seamoth, Prawn Suit, and a new modular sub called the Nautilus
Base Building: Expanded parts with electrical systems and water filtration
Creatures: 20+ new species, including the Leviathan-class Dreadfang

Unknown Worlds plans to add 2-3 major updates per year. Multiplayer stability and the story campaign are the main focus for 2026.

Price and Game Pass Details

Subnautica 2 will cost $39.99 during early access. The price will increase to $49.99 at 1.0 launch. Xbox Game Pass subscribers get full access on day one.

Saves will carry over from early access to full release, but Unknown Worlds warns that major updates may require starting a new save.
